The Republic of Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It was one of the poorest nations in the region. Within the last five years, however, it has become a hot spot for adventure travelers. In 2006 it was voted the happiest place on Earth. The reason is not that Vanuatu are the richest but that Vanuatu has white-sand islands, clear waters, the world’s most accessible live volcano, great diving and food that grows faster than it can be picked.
With a population of about 221,000, Vanuatu has 113 languages, which is a result of 3,000 years of immigration from many Pacific countries. There are three official languages: English, French, and Bislama. Bislama developed from South Pacific English, a simplified language that traders and other foreigners used it to communicate with speakers of the many local languages.
Most of the islands are mountainous and of volcanic origin. There are several active volcanoes in Vanuatu, including Yasur on the island of Tanna, one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes. If you’ve ever fancied getting close to a volcano, here’s your chance.
Vanuatu Post’s Underwater Post Office has quickly become one of the busiest post offices for postcards in the world! Visitors from around the world want to experience the world’s first underwater post office. The Post Office is only 50 meters offshore and at just three meters below the surface, very appealing to the young and young at heart. Since opening in 2003, the underwater post office has received about 100,000 visitors. They have posted one of the waterproof postcards available in Vanuatu; these cards are collected regularly by one of Vanuatu Post’s four trained divers. The underwater branch is manned daily for usually about an hour, longer with demand.

Hammerhead sharks are native to theCoco Islandsnear Costa Rica. They are named for the strange but fascinating shape of their heads. Their heads are flat and horizontally extended (水平延伸) into a “hammer” shape. Hammerheads can grow up to 20 feet long and weigh up to 1,000 pounds.
The hammerhead’s unique head shape is different from those of other species of sharks, whose are usually long and narrow. Originally, researchers thought that the shape of their heads made them move and turn easily, but it was later discovered that their ability to make sharp turns without losing stability comes more from the placement of their vertebrae, the small hollow (中空的) bones down the center of their back. The positioning of their eyes gives them very great ability to see and 360 degree sight in the vertical level, meaning they can see what is below and above them continuously.
Even though they have great ability to see, they are rather clumsy when compared to other sharks. They have the least ability to float among all species of sharks and have very small mouths. Because of the small extent of their mouths, hammerheads often feed from the ocean floor and in large groups. Very few species of sharks feed like this. Hammerhead sharks eat a variety of foods including squid (乌贼), fish, and other sharks.
Besides having their special heads, hammerhead sharks are one of the few species of animals known to have skin that tans. If a person or an animal’s skin tans, it goes darker as a result of lengthy sun exposure. It is believed that sharks’ increased melanin (黑色素) production leads to a shark’s lack of hair which in most animals would be enough to protect them from the sun.
Not much is known about hammerhead sharks before the Tertiary Period (from 65 million to 1.8 million years ago). As their bones are not mineralized, they very rarely fossilize (成为化石). Researchers believe they may have developed from carcharhinid sharks which evolved in the mid-Tertiary Period. This link was made because of the similarities in the teeth of the two types of sharks.

Growing roses is quite a difficult task without knowing the right way. If you are attracted by the beauty of roses and need some tips for growing them, read on for some tips about taking care of rose plants.
● You have to buy a good plant, preferably around two years old.
● While most rose plants can tolerate around six hours of sunlight every day, some varieties need eight hours of sunlight exposure. The shade-loving roses need only four hours of sunlight.
● You will have to soak(浸泡) the roots overnight, before planting. If you plant it in a container, then the watering should be done daily, whereas garden roses need water once or twice a week.
● The next point is the application of fertilizers(肥料), which is mainly needed by rose plants in containers. Most of the varieties do not need fertilizers, as they can feed on the nutrients that exist in the soil. There is no need of fertilization during November and December, and the frequency of fertilization can be reduced during the summers, especially after April. It can be restarted in September and has to be increased during the growing periods.
● Cutting the stems promotes the growth of the plant and also aids flowering. It should be done regularly to remove dead or diseased leaves and stems.
Rose plants can be successfully grown by beginners too! With some care and consideration, all your efforts would definitely be worth it once you smell the fragrance of beautiful roses.

Free Wi-fi offered in public places is often poorly secured. Hackers need only ordinary tools to access mobile phones linked to the network and the information the devices store.
DON’T OVERSHARE ONLINEInternet users can let their guard down when chatting with strangers on social media, letting slip their names, family details, workplace addresses and job titles to their new “friends”. Some parents even share photos of their children online, forgetting to hide details that can disclose their names, schools or where they live.
AVOID ONLINE SURVEYSSome questionnaires try to attract people with small rewards or a chance to take part in a “lucky draw”. But to qualify, people must fill in their names, phone numbers and homeaddresses. Check the website where the survey is being hosted and consider whether it’s reliable.
KEEP ONLINE RESUMES BRIEFInternet users often do not hesitate to provide detailed personal information in their online resumes, thinking it can only help probable employers to contact them. Some job site operators even require applicants to list their family members’ information. China’s Ministry of Public Security says people should give only the information necessary.
TRACK COPIES OF YOUR ID CARDBanks, telecommunications operators and other service providers often require photocopies of your identity cards to open accounts or perform other business. Dishonest employees might then try to sell them to scammers (骗子).

I was lucky enough to take a short trip to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, a few days ago. And it was really a great city to visit. When my friends and I first organised the trip, we were not sure what to expect! Warsaw is a hidden treasure of Europe and is not usually within the favourite destinations for a short city break. Warsaw has such a rich history and there are so many things to see and do. I’ll share with you just a few of the great things about this wonderful city.
The first thing that I love is the architecture (建筑). It is a strange mix of old and new. Sadly, most of the historic centre was destroyed during the Second World War. All the important buildings have been rebuilt in their original state but with newer materials. The builders involved in the rebuilding task of the city were very careful about keeping the historical features. Workers had to take an exam about the history of the buildings before they were employed. In Warsaw there can be a building that is 200 years old next to a building that is 50 years old. Warsaw has a really unique style. Another great thing about Warsaw is the green open space. There are lots of lovely parks and gardens. My favourite park is called Park Lazienki. There is a grand palace and long green lawns and tulip (郁金香) gardens. It’s a great place for a bike ride. The last thing that I really love about Warsaw is the people. They are so welcoming and they really love their culture. The food and drink are great. I love their traditional dish of potato dumplings.
I am very glad that my friends and I got to visit and appreciate such a lively and beautiful city! Warsaw is a hidden treasure in Europe for sure.

One of the most important things in the world is friendship. In order to have friends, you have to be a friend. But how can you be a good friend at school?
Listen—Listen when they are talking. Don’t say anything unless they ask you a question. Sometimes it’s not necessary for you to have anything to say; they just need someone to talk to about their feelings.
Help them —If your friend is ever in need of something, be there to help them. You should try to consider them first, but you needn’t do everything they want you to do. Try to take an extra pencil or pen with you to classes in case they forget one. Have a little extra money in your pocket because they may forget something they need.
_________—Try to make plans with your friends. Go shopping, go for ice cream, have a party, go to a movie and so on. Take time to know each other even better by doing something you both enjoy. By planning things together, you can both can have a good time. And you’ll remember these things when you’re all old!
