We usually rely on Hollywood heroes to show up on our screens and defeat the bad guys.Yet Wolf WarriorⅡ(2017)has proven that a Chinese moviemaker can entertain audiences just asⅡwell.
The man in question is Leng Feng, played by Wu Jing, the writer and director of the film. The fearless Leng used to be a special forces soldier in the People's Liberation Army.During a military rebellion in an African country,Leng almost single-handedly helps Chinese workers and African locals to escape.
In both acting and technical terms, the film is very similar to a Hollywood movie. It features quality action scenes, including gun fights, car chases,an underwater fight and a tank battle.
"The movie is a first-class production, even by Hollywood standards,"movie critic Zhou Liming told China Daily.Wolf Warrior H came out on July 27 and took a record-breaking 3.4 billion yuan in its first 13 days. But the fighting scenes also don't explain the movie's success.
"National pride among young people is growing in China,"wrote reporter Huang Zheping on news site Quartz.China's rising military power and its positive role in the world have brought out a bigger sense of pride among young people in China,he added.
The film's story isn't built on nothing.Wolf Warrior H is loosely based on the true events of the 2011 evacuation of Chinese people from Libya, when a civil war broke out in the African country.
"When I watched news clips of these events,I felt proud of China,"Wu,43,told China Daily. He hoped to make something different from other Chinese films, which,he said, usually feature bad acting and pay attention to good looks instead of good stories.
"I wanted to showcase the kindness, wit (智慧),courage and sacrifice of Chinese soldiers,"he said."As of now,China has few such military movies. We are still exploring them."

What Does the Length of Your Fingers Say About You?
Are you the peace-loving type or the ambitious go-getter?Your finger length might be a clue.Take a look at your fingers.Would you believe me if I told you that the length of your fingers in relation to one another can predict your personality?I know that it sounds like one of those silly tests you see on Facebook, but I have to admit that it is exactly correct for me.Here's how it works.
Look at your three middle fingers of your hand.Is your index finger longer than your ring finger? Is your ring finger longer than your index finger?Or are the two of the same length?Find the situation that best matches your hand and see if what follows is an accurate description of your personality.
    ●Longer ring finger:The Sweet Talker
If your ring finger is longer than your index finger, research shows that
you're likely a charming type, and you can probably talk yourself out of any
situation.Others often find this personality type irresistible and will go to
great lengths to help you. You're more likely to take risks, and you're good at problem-solving.People in this category make great engineers, soldiers and crossword-puzzle solvers.
●Longer index finger:The (Over) Confident One
If your index finger is longer than your ring finger, chances are you are full of confidence-possibly even to the point of being over-confident and proud. You are not necessarily introverted(内向的),but you do enjoy Lime to yourself, especially when you're trying to complete a project. You are a dream pursuer who can make things happen, but you may be shy when it comes to taking the first step in a relationship. You are also probably happy with what you have, but you're always wishing for more.
●Index and ring finger finger of the same length:The Peacemaker
If your index finger and ring finger are roughly of the same length, you are likely to avoid conflict at all costs and seek to keep the peace in your relationships. You are well-organized,faithful and sympathetic. But deep down under all of that caring and peace-loving,you also have a hot-tempered side that can appear unexpectedly when you're pushed too far.You will try your hardest to avoid a fight.
How well do these descriptions match your personality?I was surprised at the accuracy in my case, but I'm not going to tell you which one it was!

Dogs Trust is taking to the streets trying to stop thousands of puppies(小狗) being bought without enough consideration this Christmas, only to be cruelly abandoned soon after. Twelve artworks have been designed to describe the shocking reasons given to Dogs Trust, across its 20 Rehoming Centres in the UK, by owners who no longer wish to care for their dogs. In the years of my growing up, Dad was hard on me. He made sure I made my bed and did my homework. As a school girl and young adult, I feared him and felt bitter about him. He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A’s and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was. Whenever I went out with him on weekends, I used to struggle to think up things to say, feeling on guard.

He would call in advance to make sure there was no alcohol at the party. I got so angry with him for laying down the law. I would scream, “I hate you!” Dad would yell back, “Good! I don’t care!” Deep down I knew he did.

One time at a party, I drank too much alcohol and got so sick. I said, “Call my dad.” Next thing, Dad was carrying me to the car. I woke up the next morning, thinking I would definitely be criticized. As expected, I got a roasting, but I now understand why I need discipline.

Dad was 29 when he got his big roles in films. I had an early start at the age of nine with a role in a 1990s TV series, but it wasn’t until I finished film studies that I pursued my career as an actress. Like those early days for Dad, I faced lots of rejections. Working in such a competitive industry, I’ve sometimes thought, “I can’t do this any more.”

Once, after a trip to Hollywood, I returned to Australia so depressed and spent months in my bedroom painting, listening to Eckhart Tolle’s music and trying to find myself again. Dad sat me down and said,“Alice, I know it’s hard, but it’s all about persistence(坚持不懈).”

Now I get to work with Dad a lot, which I love. We are both enthusiastic about acting, which comes from us being so interested in people. If it weren’t for Dad, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s my biggest fan, and when you have that in your life you can go a long way.
