On March 20, the Sanxingdui Ruins in Guanghan, Sichuan drew the world's attention. Chinese archaeologists (考古学家) announced that they have found more than 500 cultural relics (遗址) in six pits (坑) at the site, which dates back to over 3,200 years ago. The relics include bronze ware (青铜器), gold and bronze masks, ivory, jade and textiles (纺织品).
The Sanxingdui Ruins, which were first discovered in 1929, are believed to be the remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom. The kingdom was a center of civilization along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
In 1986, archaeologists discovered two pits that they believed were used for sacrificial (献祭的) ceremonies. At that time, over 1,000 artifacts were found, including bronze ware, face masks and "divine (神圣的) trees"- bronze sculptures of trees.
The discovery of Sanxingdui raised an important question about the origins of Chinese civilization. The ancient Shu civilization that built Sanxingdui is believed to be one of the earliest examples of Chinese civilization. The site, along with the Liangzhu and Shijiahe sites along the Yangtze River, shows that the birthplace of Chinese civilization might not have been only along the Yellow River Basin (域) in north China.
The newly-discovered relics are similar to those found in 1986, as they also include divine trees and bronze masks . They further support the idea that the pits were used for sacrificial purposes.
"These artifacts show that the Sanxingdui site had a close connection with Central China, but it also marks an original ancient civilization (in Sichuan) with strong creativity," said Chen Xiandan, a member of the excavation (发掘) project.
    (1) What do we know about the relics found at the Sanxingdui Ruins recently?
    A. They are made of gold.
    B. They were all found in the same pit.
    C. They were created about 3,200 years ago.
    D. They were used for sacrificial ceremonies in 1986.
    (2) What does the word "artifacts" in Paragraph 3 refer to?
    A. The remains of a building.
    B. Ancient ceremonies.
    C. Historical objects.
    D. Bronze sculptures.
    (3) Paragraph 4 shows that Chinese civilization ______.
    A. started earlier than was believed before
    B. might have several different origins
    C. was centered along the Yangtze River
    D. developed from the ancient Shu civilization
    (4) What do the newly-discovered relics suggest?
    A. Sanxingdui is more important than the sites in Central China.
    B. The Sanxingdui Ruins are part of the Liangzhu Ruins.
    C. Sanxingdui was built by the ancient Shu Kingdom.
    D. The ancient Shu civilization was creative.
    (5) What is the best title for this passage?
    A. New Discovery of Sanxingdui
    B. Chinese Cultural Relics
    C. Ancient Civilization
    D. Work of Chinese Archaeologists

Is it a celebrity's job to be a good role model?
    Pros(正方) Cons(反方)
It's a celebrity's(名人) job to be a good rolemodel because people usually look up to stars. If a celebrity drinks and smokes, his fans will follow him because they look up to the celebrity so much. If a celebrity's lifestyle is inappropriate for kids, then their parents should be more careful about what they let their kids see. I think everyone should try to be a good role model, even if you are not a celebrity! You can still be a role model to your sisters and brothers, a younger neighbor, or anyone. But I think celebrities should be very good because they are role models for so many people! A celebrity doesn't have to try to be a good role model. They are famous because they worked hard at what they love for a living. They should, however, try to make good choices for themselves, not their fans.Lots of stars have to post apology (道歉)letters after being caught doing bad things. It's good, but if the only reason they do is to win back their fans, it's not good. Although it is a wonderful thing to be a good role model, that's not what the celebrities must do. They are famous because they love what they do and are good at it. Being a role model is never in the job.If the celebrities know they are affecting the young people, they should try hard to set a good example.
    (1) Which of the following reasons is NOT from the pros?
    A. People look up to the celebrities.
    B. Everyone should try to be a good role model.
    C. Celebrities get much love and support from fans.
    D. You should be a good example to others.
    (2) What does the underlined word "inappropriate" mean?
    A.难以言说的
    B.非同寻常的
    C.不恰当的
    D.不痛快的
    (3) According to the cons, how do some people become famous?
    A. By working hard at what they love.
    B. By setting a good example to others.
    C. By making good choices for themselves.
    D. By supporting others with money and love.
    (4) Which of the following is TRUE according to their words?
    A. It is easy for stars to win back fans.
    B. Stars may sometimes do something wrong.
    C. Family members should encourage kids to be stars.
    D. People should try their best to become famous stars.
    (5) What conclusion can we draw from their opinions?
    A. When you become a celebrity, you have been a good role model too.
    B. Even though a celebrity makes mistakes, young people should follow him.
    C. Whether a celebrity is a role model or not, he should care about his behavior.
    D. A celebrity should give his money to the poor kids to support their studies.
